Plans & pricing

Mission Broadcast charges to recover its own costs (Brevo, SendGrid, hosting, the domain we host on). It doesn't try to make a profit on families. This page covers what you get on each plan and how to think about which is right for you.

Short version

Most users want Monthly at $5/month. Free works great for short missions or test setups. The Sister/Elder Upfront options pre-pay the typical mission length at a single discount.

Free

What you get:

  • A path URL: https://missionbroadcast.com/m/<your-slug>
  • A path intake address: letters+<your-slug>@missionbroadcast.com
  • Up to 100 subscribers.
  • Unlimited broadcasts and unlimited inbound letters.
  • Full archive that subscribers can browse.

What you don't get:

  • A custom domain (see Monthly+).
  • The end-of-mission letter book ($-priced add-on).

When free makes sense:

  • You're testing the platform before committing.
  • You expect to stay under 100 subscribers forever (small extended family, no friends list).
  • The missionary's mission is short (sister missionaries' 18 months can feel borderline; elders' 24 months usually outgrow the cap).

Monthly — $5/month

Everything in Free, plus:

  • Custom domain (BYO) — the public archive and the intake address use your own domain. See Custom domain.
  • No subscriber cap. Add as many as you can faithfully keep up with.
  • Auto-relay — letters from approved senders broadcast immediately instead of waiting for review.
  • The full Letter book option at end of mission.

The Monthly clock starts when the first broadcast is sent on the paid plan — not the moment you upgrade. You can sit on Monthly for a week setting things up without burning a paid month.

Cancel any time from the Billing page. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period; subscribers keep getting letters until then.

Sister Upfront / Elder Upfront

A single upfront payment for the full typical mission length:

  • Sister Upfront — 18 months prepaid at a discount.
  • Elder Upfront — 24 months prepaid at a discount.

(Exact pricing shows on the Billing page — it's locked to $5/month × months with a discount factor.)

This is the right pick if:

  • You know the mission length in advance (most do).
  • You'd rather not deal with monthly billing renewals.
  • You'd like to save a little vs. Monthly × N.

You can still upgrade later (extend the period with an add-on) or downgrade-effective on the next renewal.

Family discount

Running multiple missionaries on one account?

After the first paid missionary, additional missionaries under the same account get a family discount on their plans. It's applied automatically at checkout — no coupon code, no email-us-first.

Eligibility rules:

  • The accounts must share an owner email (the Google sign-in).
  • Each missionary still has its own plan; the discount applies on the per-missionary plan price, not the total.
  • Discount stacks with upfront pricing (so Sister Upfront × family discount is the cheapest way to run a daughter's mission if you already pay for a son's).

Add-ons

A few one-off paid features, available on any plan:

  • Letter book — A hardcover bound book of every letter the missionary sent, ordered at end of mission. Includes a free PDF copy. Sized for shipping anywhere; price varies by page count.
  • Archive extension — Keep the public archive online beyond the default retention window (see below). $5/year past the default cut-off.
  • Managed Custom Domain — One upfront payment of $55 and we register your domain, do the DNS setup, and keep the registrar renewals paid for three years. Covers a typical mission length (18-24 months) with a buffer on either side. The alternative is bringing your own domain for free (about $12/yr at any registrar) and following the setup guide — your call.
  • Whitelabel — Hide the "Sent via Mission Broadcast" footer in outbound emails. $5/month or $30/year.
  • Photo Pro — Full-resolution photos + 5 GB storage cap (up from 800px and 500 MB on the standard plan). $20/year.
  • Subscriber roster export — A CSV download of the current subscriber list with subscribe dates. Free for paid customers (no add-on needed); not available on Free.

Retention

Mission Broadcast keeps the public archive (and broadcast history) for 2 years past the later of last paid period or mission end date. After that, the archive gets purged. We warn you twice (30 days out, 7 days out) by email before any deletion.

You can extend retention at any time:

  • Archive extension add-on — $5/year extra. Re-up annually.
  • Letter book — buying the book extends retention to forever for that missionary (the bound-book purchase implicitly says "keep this archive around").

Once retention runs out:

  • The missionary doc itself stays (audit trail), so the slug isn't available to someone else.
  • All letters, attachments, and subscribers are deleted.
  • The public archive URLs return 404.

The clock starts at the later of:

  1. The last paid period's end date, or
  2. The mission's end date (the date you entered when you set up the site).

So a missionary who finishes their mission in 2027 and is on Monthly through 2027 has their archive retained until 2029.

Lapse handling

If a Monthly payment fails — card expired, declined, whatever — Mission Broadcast doesn't immediately cut off your subscribers' access. The lapse ladder is:

  1. Day 1 of failure: We try the card again the next day. No visible change to the missionary's site.
  2. Day 3: Email to all account managers explaining the failure and how to update billing.
  3. Day 7: Letters are queued instead of broadcast (subscribers don't get them, but they don't bounce — they sit pending).
  4. Day 14: Public archive flips to a "this site is temporarily frozen — contact the family" page.
  5. Day 30: Account locks. Re-activation requires payment.

Recover at any point by updating billing in the Manage billing portal — broadcasts resume and pending letters flush.

How to upgrade or change

Open the Billing page in the account sidebar:

  • Upgrade Free → Monthly: One Stripe checkout. Takes 60 seconds.
  • Switch Monthly → Upfront: Cancel Monthly first (effective at period end), then start an Upfront plan after the Monthly period ends. (We're working on a one-click migration; not in yet.)
  • Add a family discount: Automatic when you start a second missionary's plan under the same account.
  • Cancel anything: Click Manage billing to open Stripe's portal. Cancellations take effect at the end of the current period — never mid-cycle.

For anything weird or that doesn't fit the patterns above, ask for help and we'll sort it out.
